Guide to Fresh Juice, Smoothies, and Superfood Drinks in Milwaukee!

Hello fellow Milwaukee 'ins or those of you traveling to our underrated city. Wisconsin can be a bit behind when it comes to healthy eateries, raw vegan food, etc. but there are plenty of people here looking for healthier, light options... or at least to cram some nutrients after a day of all you can drink beer at one of our local festivals.

Don't fret. I have come to you with a master-list of where you can find a healthy grab and go drink or smoothie bowl from all around the Milwaukee and surrounding area.

Juiced! Cold-Pressed Juicery

Juiced! is the obvious one. They are Milwaukee's native larger-scale cold-pressed juicery. You can stop at their shop on 640 S. 5th Street, Milwaukee, WI 53204. Or buy in many local stores! My top picks would be: Bionic Glowâ„¢ which has watermelon, strawberry, and lemon. It is super hydrating and just sounds amazingly delicious....duh! But also I would pick Lean & Cleanâ„¢ consisting of kale, cucumber, apple, lime, and ginger. Because it is greener, less sugar, good for digestion and alkalizing.

Check out their website!

The Green Kitchen

The Green Kitchen is located in Milwaukee's famous Milwaukee Public Market downtown in the third ward. It is another juicery, but they also serve salads and wraps. This is unrelated to the main topic of this article....but it is one of the only places I have seen offering their wraps on healthy collard greens instead of a tortilla! I am obsessed with their GK Veggie Wrap on collard greens. It is huge, super filling and has the most amazing sunflower seed spread! Okay, back to the main topic. They have a pretty large menu of cold pressed juices that they make on the spot. Check them out!

On The Bus

On The Bus is also in the Milwaukee Public Market. It is [one of] my favorite places to get vegan ice cream, but they also do killer smoothie bowls and smoothies. As a side note. They definitely give you a decent amount of smoothie bowl compared to many other, more expensive places. They are also one of the only places I have seen that sweeten their smoothies with only fruit and dates! Check out their date shakes! The Blueberry Almond one is my go-to! If I want a smoothie bowl, this is for sure my go-to place. They have acai & pitaya bowls which are both incredible super-fruits. Also, their granola is made in house and gluten-free. My 2 -fave's are their Pink Coconut Bowl, and their Almond Cocoa Bowl. Lastly, they also have regular smoothies that are just fruit, veggies and juice. I tried their Glowing Ginger and loved it. It has turmeric, pineapple, ginger, banana, and OJ.

Urban Beets

Urban Beets is another great vegan restaurant where you can find super food drinks, smoothies, cold pressed juices and smoothie bowls! If you can, opt to get their items without Agave as it metabolizes in the body like corn syrup does.

My top picks: Tea with a Twist Bowl (Banana, matcha & lime, topped w/ coconut & banana), Clever Monkey Smoothie (Banana, Cacao, Peanut, Reishi, Lion's Mane, Maple, Almond Mylk), Snapple Apple Juice (Kale, Celery, Apple, Lemon, Ginger), Pink Moon Superfood Tonic (Beetroot, cardamom, cinnamon, maca, agave, hot with frothed oat or almond milk), Superfood Hot Cocoa, their specials for superfood coffees and also the Kombucha on tap is the best there!

They also do specials all the time and those tend to be their best items! Follow them on Facebook to watch what's coming next!

First Watch

First watch is a great place to grab breakfast in Brookfield, Oak Creek or Mequon. They have some pretty decent menu items but I wanted to highlight their Triple Berry Acai Bowl Their menu says they use organic Sambazon Açai topped with fresh strawberries, blackberries, blueberries and housemade granola. They even serve it with whole grain artisan toast topped with almond butter and Maldon sea salt. They also have a chia pudding bowl called A.M Superfoods Bowl which has coconut milk chia seed pudding with banana, berries, black berries preserves (skip for sugar free) and housemade granola. This also comes with their decadent almond butter toast. I am not sure that this makes the cut for this particular blog, however, they also have power bowls. Lastly, I can't forget to highlight their Kale Tonic. Its a fresh pressed green juice with kale, fuji apple, cucumber and lemon.

Tropical Smoothie Café

Tropical Smoothie is a chain, I've been to the one in Chicagoland area and Appleton and just recently discovered the one in New Berlin. You get your bang for your buck here because they give MASSIVE smoothies. Always make sure to check the ingredients and make sure its not sweetened extra with sugar-filled fruit juice. You can always opt for water or dairy free unsweetened milk. Of course I am going to tell you to go for their "Super Greens" category of smoothies, but for real. I like their Avacolada (avocado, pineapple, spinach, kale, coconut and lime). I haven't had it and it doesn't have any grains but if I'm feelin a mighty fine dessert smoothie the Chia Banana Boost sounds amazing (roasted banana, chia seeds, almonds, whole grain oats, cinnamon, dates & coconut with your choice of peanut butter or strawberries....drool! But why not both!! Haha).

Ps, Ask for NO SPLENDA if it comes with that as an ingredient. Artificial sweeteners are no Bueno! They're on point with a lot of things but not every item or ingredient they offer is a healthy choice. Be diligent and ask for what you want. I have customized some pretty bomb smoothies here using blueberry, avocado, greens, pea protein, etc.

Goddess and The Baker

Goddess and The Baker originally started in Chicago and then they opened up a location in The Corners Mall in Brookfield. It's kind of a neat place. They go over-the-top on colorful accents like edible glitter, tropical flowers coming out of your fresh pressed juice and cookies on a stick coming out off your latte. That doesn't all sound healthy, but they do have some good juice options and an acai bowl.

Check out their juices:

KALE APPLE COOLER (Kale, fuji apple, cucumber, lemon) GINGER PINEAPPLE TONIC (Pineapple, ginger, cucumber, lime, orange, coconut water)

P.s They have a really cool matcha latte with strawberry puree! Its very sweet but you won't find that anywhere else and its a really yummy and unique treat! I get it with DF milk.

Nona Nutrition

I just recently discovered Nona Nutrition and I can't wait to go try everything on their menu! It all looks amazing! My only drawback is that they use whey in most of their smoothies. I am sensitive to whey and don't like to use this animal product. I would sub it out for grass-fed collagen or plant-based proteins powder (as long as its not soy based)! Also, careful with added fruit juices, they can add a ton of sugar and carbs to your smoothie. They do have a Keto/Low Carb menu for smoothies though! I also love that they add "omega swirl" and enzyme supplements to some of the smoothies. You can also add enhancers like cold pressed turmeric and raw bee pollen. Honestly, just check out their whole menu. They have fresh-pressed juices, smoothies, smoothie bowls, and even superfood coffees and drinks. This one is in Pewaukee.

I am not going to break these down because my list is longer here and I want you to read their menu anyways, but this is my running list...Paradise Bowl, Ultimate Green Bowl, Happy Gut Smoothie, Lavender Lemon Blueberry Smoothie, Blue Crush, MI-KALE-A, FourSigmatic Bulletproof Coffee and Superfood Mylks.

Beerline Café

I love Beerline Cafe! It is one of my favorite healthier/vegan cafes! They are also so good about customizing things per-diet. I really hope they open their dining room back up because it is super cute in there and a nice place to work on the computer or hangout with a friend while noshing down on amazing food. All of their fresh Juices are on point and amazing. Try the Emerald, Ruby, or Lemon Bomb! Their smoothies are on point too except I would sub almond milk instead of soy! My top picks are the Jolly Green Jenny, Cheyenne Avocado Chocolate, or Oatmeal blueberry Maple.

Shindig Coffee

Not many people probably know about this one. It is part of the Shermon Pheonix and a black-owned business. You should definitely go support! Its a coffee shop, but they also do cold-pressed juices and immune and digestion shots! They are located in the Sherman Park neighborhood in a really cool refurbished building full of awesome and trendy black-owned businesses. Its a really cool place. Their juice brand is Shindig Juice. Try the Beulah Tonic!

Tippecanoe Herbs and Apothecary

Tippecanoe Herbs and Apothecary is an amazing company. The owner is a stellar Herbologist and has a really cool store front in Bayview. I had always gotten things from their farmers market stand, but I visited their actual store last year and discovered they also have a drink café with ultra-healthy superfood drinks, milk-teas and smoothies! They use ingredients they sell in their store. I just bought rose petals from them like in the picture below. They make rose water which is delicious in different superfood drinks. Check out their facebook page for drink specials. Right now they have a spring green matcha latte that sounds amazing.

Outpost

There are several Outpost locations around Milwaukee and outside of Milwaukee so you should never be short of a good smoothie or Juice. They have a pretty good cafe. This is our local Co-op. Right now they have some seasonal drinks that sound yummy. Check out their Honey-Bee Latte or their Mango Lassi Smoothie.
